The 19th Japan Flute Convention Fukuoka 2019 will be held in Fukuoka from 23rd August this year. The application period to participate in the event will start in May, but the repertoire of the competition has now been announced. We are looking forward to seeing many of you.

Competition Period

Solo Division 21-25 August, 2019
Piccolo Division 21-24 August, 2019
Ensemble Award Division 23-24 August, 2019

Eligibility for Participation

Members of the JFA (including those who join the JFA on this occasion).
Those who participate in this convention for whole period.

Application Period

If the number of applications reaches its maximum before the deadline, the applications that arrive on the day will be the last to be accepted; no more applications will be accepted after that.
Regarding the applications that arrive on the day its maximum number is reached, acceptance may be decided by drawing lots.
If the number of applications reaches its maximum before the deadline, it will immediately be announced on the JFA website.

How to apply

Application for the competition can be done online through the JFA website. Applicants are requested to register for the 19th Japan Flute Convention in Fukuoka 2019. Registration, including enrollment to JFA, can be completed by filling out the application form for the competition.
Application for the Ensemble Award Competition must be filled out and submitted by each member of the ensemble.

Matters to be noted

The correct email address of the applicant is of great importance since the competition application is processed only online from the JFA website.
Once the ‘send’ button is pressed, an email acknowledging the receipt of the application will automatically be sent from JFA. Please consider the email address provided being incorrect if you do not receive the email from JFA.

【Ensemble Award Division】

The first 50 applicant groups will be accepted. Application process will close when the number of applicants reaches the quota.

<Preliminary Round>

Play the following pieces in the order of (1) and (2).

(1)
〈Duet〉Friedrich KUHLAU The 2nd movement from Duo Brillants Op.102 No.1
〈Trio〉Friedrich KUHLAU The 3rd movement from Grand Trio Op. 86 No.1
〈Quartet〉Friedrich KUHLAU The 3rd movement from Quartett Op.103

(2)A piece of free choice (which should not exceed 6 minutes); An arranged piece is acceptable.

〈Final〉

Two pieces of free choice. The duration including the time between the pieces should not exceed 20 minutes.

One should be an original work though the other one can be an arranged piece.

・The contestants can make some cuts in the pieces of free choice in order to make the entire duration fit in the allowed length of time.
・The piece of free choice for the preliminary round can be one of the pieces for the final.
・For (1) in the preliminary round, the instruments should be flute only. For (2) in the preliminary round and the final, contestants can use piccolo, soprano flute, flute, flute d’amour, alto flute, bass flute, F-bass flute or contrabass flute.
